An estimated 1300 to 2000 people arrive in Melbourne each day and the state has secured 5000 hotel beds ready to use.

The Victorian government will pay for the cost of quarantining thousands of returned travellers for two weeks in an effort to slow the spread of the coronavirus.

People who arrive in Victoria from midnight on Saturday will be housed in hotels, motels, caravan parks and student accommodation, Premier Daniel Andrews said on Friday afternoon.Credit: "I want people to understand, if you’re travelling through Melbourne and flying to Adelaide, you’ll be quarantined here," Mr Andrews said."There will be a bunch of hotel workers who’ve had their hours cut who will be able to return to do this important work."

Close the borders! Don’t let them in!!!

Again not the sharpest tool in the shed.. I guess itheir advisors are to be blamed for the increase in cases

Should have put them in tents in NT... kill all that virus with that heat

WHY?

Why aren’t they going to Christmas Island.

A big mess !!

Close the fucking borders

Ok. 1200 x 10 days isolation is 12,000.

Why on earth are these people allowed in. China and Sth Korea wouldn’t allow this to happen. Australian Gov is now responsible for all and any on-going deaths how does that make you feel.. taking home a big fat pay check every week so what would you care about..!! 🤣

More stupidity, we know that almost everyone who gets the virus will recover fully, usually we quarantine the sick, not treat all the healthy like lepers

The arrivals back to OS now ! Upset me that they should have done this much earlier- WHY does the gov have to baby sit responsibility? And we at home pay for it! Welcome back! But pls be mindful if repercussions

Can we please close the airports - people have had enough time to come home. Please secure the borders and let’s just get on with flattening the curve...

So maybe you have 5 days of beds- after that?

Way more than that surely? One plane alone would have 200 people or more. 10 planes makes it 2000. That’s way conservative. Plus interstate drivers. I think your estimate of 1300-2000 is wrong.

Who makes sure they don’t leave their rooms?

Why if they can afford 2 travel then they can afford 2 pay!

I thought the boarders were closed? How fucken stupid are we I think the government secretly want 1,000's dead. All their efforts are half arsed! Trying to contain fuck all.

Well done Chicken Little

Four weeks late...

We might not have had to shut the economy down so hard if they had done the correct thing in the first place. Good move.

At last a government doing the correct thing to fight this virus. Quarantine not self isolation is the key to success. This is a really smart move.

Clearly not a numbers man 😬

Crown casino donated use of hotel rooms to those affected by Malacoota bushfires.

our border should be shut...DanielAndrewsMP

At least hotels don't have to let staff go yet.

We’re going to need a bigger boat.

Shotgun the Park Hyatt

'caravan parks and student accommodation' Will these have separate facilities, or will those in quarantine be expected to either share or use the same facilities as each other?

This is not a holiday trip fir interssters geez

Who pays the bill?

Thought Brett Sutton was a dissenting voice & wanting tougher restrictions. No mention of his views today. Where are we at?

And if later found that travel was none essential they should pay the bill for their quarantine related expenses

I’m not paying for them Go home

Err, 5000 beds ain’t gonna be enough then...

So, full in 3 days
