Tram badly damaged after collision with truck in George Street

Sydney's light rail line has been closed between Circular Quay and Town Hall after a truck and a tram collided on Monday afternoon.

Transdev Sydney Light Rail confirmed the tram, which was travelling towards Circular Quay, had been derailed with "major damage" to its side.Credit:The tram was left with a massive dent and was brought to a halt near the corner of George and Essex streets, outside the EY Sweeney building.Police and Light Rail Network officers are at the scene trying to determine what caused the crash.

"Obviously, we're looking at the circumstances of this particular issue," said Transport for NSW Chief Operations Officer Howard Collins."Catch a train instead," the NSW Transport website advised patrons. Trams are still running between Town Hall and Randwick, as well as between Town Hall and The Juniors Kingsford.
