NSW and Victoria will quickly enforce new rules limiting gatherings to just two people. 9News

The Queensland Premier has defended going ahead with this weekend's local council elections despite the ban on gatherings amid the coronavirus pandemic.

"If my Chief Medical Officer says it was safe, it is safe to do so," Annastacia Palaszczuk told Today. "I listened to the health officer and it was much safer to do that than going to Dan Murphy's or going to a crowded supermarket where everyone is jostling each other. "Those elections are done and dusted and tomorrow I have a phone hook-up with all of the mayors across Queensland because I need to brief them on the coronavirus and I need them working in their communities to make sure their communities are safe as well," she added.

Ms Palaszczuk confirmed the state is planning for a "worst case scenario" by preparing sites including Brisbane's Convention Centre for makeshift hospitals."It would be irresponsible of anyone not to plan for worst-case scenario and that is what we are doing," she said.

“Self isolation” and “social distances” looks like not work well. If there’re people still on the beach, any further restrictions just would be another joke.
