The sudden closure of two aged care facilities on the New South Wales Central Coast has renewed concerns about the financial viability of Australia’s private aged care sector.

The sudden closure of two aged care facilities on the New South Wales Central Coast has shocked a large group of vulnerable older residents and their families and renewed concerns about the financial viability of Australia's private aged care sector.

The private operators of each facility have cited financial reasons for the closures as well as the ongoing impact of the Royal Commission into Aged Care. "The new quality standards, the royal commission, staff education and resourcing, and research and advice received with regards to what a well-designed dementia environment looks like," it said.

Down the road in Wyoming, operator Allity defended its decision to close the Henry Kendall facility after 34 years because it could no longer be"modified extensively enough to meet the accommodation needs and expectations of residents".

Things will get worse before they get better so there is no point moaning about it, rather more constructive actions should be taken such as looking into what culture & business factors allow the exemplar facilities to operate at the higher standards of care that they do. Learn!

It's time for Govts both Federal and State to step up to their responsibilities for aged Australians and not just shut down aged care homes who are unable or unwilling to meet an expected community standard but to take over the running of facilities for the benefit of the elderly

NSW Treasurer 'frustrated' by federal leaders 'shooting down' tax reform debateNSW Treasurer Dominic Perrottet wants an expanded GST discussed to improve state government services, but he is unlikely to win any support from Canberra. Good on him for trying but they aren't entertaining GST changes because it's been political poison for 25 years min. Much safer to make other tax changes instead, literally no one notices them and they are not forced to give the revenue to states. .... by “tax reform “... do they mean the 2500 multinationals that syphon a trillion dollars out of the country without paying a cent of tax .... will start paying 30 cents on the dollar ? yeah tax the proletariat until their eyes bleed; never mind the thousands each month having their electricity cut off even now!
