Former Prime Minister Tony Abbott has been appointed as a trade envoy for the United Kingdom as Boris Johnson pushes forward with a post-Brexit Britain. Mr Abbott was reportedly given an advisory position on the Board of Trade and was tasked with boosting economic growth.
Prime Minister Scott Morrison dismissed questions as to whether Mr Abbott would be required to identify as an agent of influence under government law, saying he would leave it to the governor-general to “sort out”. “I’m sure if there’s paperwork for Tony [Abbott] to fill out, I’m sure he’ll get that done, but well done Boris, good hire,” he said.
