He was pivotal in canvassing the votes for the 2000 Sydney Games by travelling through Africa with former Australian prime minister Gough Whitlam.China had poured billions of aid into Africa and it was the votes of some of its then 48 countries that pushed Sydney one vote ahead of Beijing. Both Liberal and Labor politicians acknowledge the power of this “Coates of many colours”. Instead it has backfired horribly! Let's say this IS some sort of charade they cooked up...omg, it goes from bad to worse. Could Palaszczuk have possibly collaborated in such a silly act b/c it has brought a heap of acrimony on Coates and made her look like a victim.
I think any attempt to make excuses for John Coates' arrogant bullying of a female Premier on a public broadcast, is not going to change public opinion. Far better for the media to work on getting an apology from Coates to the Premier AnnastaciaMP
