He said the Morrison government was already investigating building high-speed rail along the east coast. The federal agency said in its most recent infrastructure priority report that corridor preservation between Melbourne and Brisbane remained a high priority.

There is a good reason why this hasn’t been built. Because it will cost a fortune and be largely funded by taxpayers. It will be quicker and cheaper flying and there are numerous projects which have much greater benefit and business case.

It would need to be fully enclosed in either above or below ground tunnel with no possibility of animal or plant life entering into the operational space. The speed is too high for open travel, would mean nothing would survive in its path.
