Time to 'bite the bullet' and build high-speed rail, says Labor's Anthony Albanese

Australia should “bite the bullet” and build a high-speed rail line between Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane, senior Labor figure Anthony Albanese said, in a sign the opposition is preparing to put the perennial election issue back on the agenda.

He said the Morrison government was already investigating building high-speed rail along the east coast. The federal agency said in its most recent infrastructure priority report that corridor preservation between Melbourne and Brisbane remained a high priority.

Lease carriage rights to airlines such as Qantas and Virgin to get them on board and secure government revenue.

Go for it Albo, better late than never. BUT set up the legislation that will prevent the Lib/Nat goons from tinkering around and stuffing ( I am being polite on a public platform) it up, like they have with the NBN. Beholden to too many vested interests.

Back up your words

Get Melbourne to Shepparton built STAT.

First one should be called 'Utopia' ..

A decent Metro system in Melbourne would be more appreciated thank you.

Wonderful idea that is 50 years too late - capital cost outweighs use - and besides we will have a system that demands many stops so high speed rarely achieved! AlboMP ScottMorrisonMP

Must be an election looming...

that's it more federal money being spent on the east. forget about Adelaide and Perth and Hobart we'll just use hot air balloon gratis the parliament.

This line should have been built 10-20 years ago as a move Australia forward infrastructure project... we have been hoodwinked by airlines and self interest groups not to do this. If we are to expand Australia we need lots of this, not just this route.

If India can build the bullet train, why is Australia lagging behind billshortenmp ? Think it over. Melbourne-Sydney will be a huge success.

Let's hope the Monday after the election, Labor will start to build the high speed rail between Brisbane and Melbourne!😀👏🏻👌

Only 40 years behind the rest of the world!!

Albanese like the currant Mob controlling ARTC. can not run a rail line or maintain the infrastructure. how in hell could they build a ho gauge set.

Never happen. This bullshit continues. You can fly So cheaply why would you spend 500 billion to build a fast train.

Let pric money build d bullet train We have 2 airports n 100s of interstate flights if we get d bullet trains they'd suffer a loss

But fuck the rest of the country, like usual, East Coast is all that matter.

Its embarrassing when Kenya has a bullet train before Australia

Yes ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️😇

High speed trains.... Must be election time...maybe focus of getting the exisiting system working *cough* vline *cough* before going fancy...

‘It’s time to know what went on behind the gates’It’s been 10 years since the death of Michael Jackson - dubbed the King Of Pop long before his reputation deteriorated - was mourned the world over. I agree, however you will now be bombarded by a wave of MJ fans so good luck. It’s too late now. The damage has been done; justice hasn’t been served. He has children. Leave them alone.
