Selection chairman Trevor Hohns has welcomed Tim Paine's quick return with an eye to next month's Test series against Pakistan | Pierik_AgeSport

Australian Test captain Tim Paine has eased any fears over his fitness for next month's Test series against Pakistan, having been named in Tasmania's opening Sheffield Shield clash.

He missed the opening matches of the Marsh one-day series but will take the gloves when the Tigers head to Perth next week for a four-day clash at the WACA, beginning Thursday. However, Matthew Wade, Paine's Ashes teammate and a man determined to retain his spot in the Test XI, will be captain."The extent of the injury was a little bit unknown but, obviously, he is fit and available, which is great," he said.

"That's where it is at with Tim. He has done a great job in an extremely difficult period as the leader of the Australian cricket team." Paine's place in history is secure regardless of how long left he has in charge. He helped to unify the side at a time of upheaval and became the first Australian captain to leave England with the Ashes urn since Steve Waugh in 2001.
