The face of the full Moon is usually pretty smooth and shiny, because the Sun's rays are hitting it straight on and there are no shadows. There's usually only one full Moon a month, but occasionally, there are two, with the second being called a "blue moon" — although it's rarely actually blue unless there's some kind of dust in the atmosphere.
