Perspective: This pandemic has revealed the authoritarian streak in Australian governments | CUhlmann

If a departing Australian is deemed to be a health risk then that is an issue for the destination country to solve. It can, and probably will, demand health checks and mandatory quarantine, further discouraging wayward travellers.

And if people filling hotel quarantine is a worry for the federal government, then why is it supporting the push to reboot the international student trade? The new leader in the highly contested field of border irrationality must surely be South Australia, which is boasting it will host a trial quarantine of 300 international students at the same time as it bars regional Victorians from crossing its land border.

Then the state border closures began and that proved more popular than free money. Australians were so happy to be carved back into colonies that the premiers found they could not go hard enough. There is now a competition for who can punt the reopening of border walls furthest into the long grass.

CUhlmann Yep, just like not letting citizens home.

CUhlmann Maybe the governments would not have to have lockdowns if certain irresponsible media people did not spread lies and misinformation like it is a fraud or it is just like the flu. Your 'journalist' mates are killing people Chris.

CUhlmann perfectly happy for Chris to leave as long as he doesn't come back

CUhlmann Totally agree Chris, it's getting out of control.

CUhlmann

CUhlmann Fine. Take no action. Hello USA mess

CUhlmann Ah Australia, the world’s biggest nanny state! I’m amazed people make it through each day without being told what to do. Not entiretsure where the notion of laid back Aussie attitude actually comes from?

CUhlmann Authoritarian? Lmao! People were allowed to go out freely during stage 3 lockdown, returned travelers were able to quarantine in 5 star hotel funded by tax payers money, had cigarette break, watever break, exercise which lead to today’s big mess we are in now! Crap reporting!

CUhlmann Churchill made it possible for yells of Nazism from now on. Every questionable court decision, every overstep and misstep, every dodgy death of a big six million member..... Reach for the stars, that is what Winston intended!

CUhlmann Scott wolf in sheep skin

CUhlmann Seriously, what do you expect our Government to do when the stupidity of the general population is so high. A light touch? You’ve got to be kidding Seriously, this is possibly the MOST ridiculous article I’ve read about the pandemic. SMH has lost the plot.

CUhlmann In all Governments around the world. Look up the definition of govern. Had it not been for a few idiots running quarantine our lives would have been virtually back to normal. It’s the people that flout the rules that are keeping us locked down and out of work.

CUhlmann MORRISONS GOVERNMENT IS A CLONE OF TRUMPS A WANNABE DICTATOR! TO THE PIONT OF STOPPING PEOPLE FROM TESTIFYING TO TELL THE TRUTH OF RUBY PRINCESS! MORRISON DUTTON BEREJIKLIAN ALL GUILTY AND CORRUPT!! RESIGN THE 3OF YOU !

CUhlmann Authoritarian streak? Who writes this rubbish.

CUhlmann If only people would do the right thing 🙄 and I’m not saying police are perfect, but they have a big job to do to keep us safe.

CUhlmann European Council president Donald Tusk sneered ... “What I find really obsolete is authoritarianism, personality cults and the rule of oligarchs,” Tusk said. Typical of EU heavyweights, Tusk prefers an idealised world to the real one. 🤷🏻‍♂️

CUhlmann Orwell only got the year wrong.

CUhlmann Um, it may have escaped your notice but the country is in a crisis the likes of which few have ever experienced. The government can be forgiven for being authoritarian. Covid will not fix itself.

CUhlmann And NZ.

CUhlmann This pandemic has revealed how many Australians are sheep and only too willing to give away their rights and freedoms to a big authoritarian government without a thought for the consequences. Orwell’s 1984 wasn’t meant to be an instruction manual.

CUhlmann Revealed, you mean the one your tacitly propagate? Seriously Chris.

CUhlmann Thank you for writing this important article.

CUhlmann It sure has! Good article!

CUhlmann What would you prefer happen? Let the virus run unchecked? What a wank of an article

CUhlmann this pandemic has revealed that many Australians are selfish and only care about their own rights and wont follow rules in order to protect others requiring the govt to make tougher rules that hurt everyone. take your Zeitgeist and conspiracy theories and go away please

CUhlmann The trouble is, Australia, some of that authoritarian streak has been required, as the 'self entitled' failed to look after the community. The biggest struggle will be getting the politicians to let go of these 'powers'... they are addictive.

CUhlmann Awaiting the lebensraum policy. Invade NZ?

CUhlmann Why is this RW 💩 from Channel 9 in the paper? SMH sinks ever lower in my estimations.

CUhlmann

CUhlmann need to get rid of compulsory voting.

CUhlmann Australia governments, Federal and the States have been taking lessons from the Communists. It really makes me think the world is doomed to become a Communist dystopia.

CUhlmann Not to mention an idiotic, irresponsible streak in the populace. Remember the TP hoarding for a start..The problem with stupid ppl is they need to be controlled on some level. The upside of stupid ppl for the govts is they keep voting for the LNP, One Notion and the like.

CUhlmann We are been controlled by a bunch of Nazis.

CUhlmann It’s also revealing how many brainless compliant citizens we have that allow them to get away with this.

Worrying number of Aussies not saving during coronavirus hardshipsMost Australians are not saving money during the coronavirus pandemic and have little to no savings in their accounts, a worrying new report has found. Yeah right like we get enough to save. Not just that but I have billions stolen off land rights thieves Let's put this right: 'We created the fear that Billions would die (same as we did with WMD's in Iraq). Now that everyone has lost their jobs and the economy has shutdown, we are digging the knife in further by pointing out to you that your savings are gone' Hard to believe that some people have bills to pay. We just need the perverse politicians to crush the people even more.

Why are people ditching private health insurance during a global pandemic?Despite the fact a deadly virus is raging around us, thousands of young Australians have decided to dump their private health insurance as the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic set in. Because it's a rort. If I thought that it would allow me to use the treatment I choose for covid if I got ill I would sign up tommorow, but alas the government banned it and Qld have made it a criminal offence, oh well no point paying if I can’t CHOOSE ? Because it's a scam?
