Several eyewitnesses have launched a passionate defence of Asofa-Solomona and his Storm teammates, who they say were provoked by a group of drunken Australian men at well-known bar La Favela in the early hours of Sunday morning.

“When it erupted, the bouncers threw them all out and they were out on the street. They were all out the front and that’s when the big fella [Asofa-Solomona] saw one of the blokes with a bottle in his hand. He was going to glass him [Vunivalu] — so he got in first.”

In truth, according to those who were there, Asofa-Solomona was merely protecting his mates — something that lines up with the ethos of the Storm. Asofa-Solomona rushed back to Melbourne on Monday morning and told reporters at Tullamarine Airport he was keen to give integrity unit investigators his side of the story. “Like I said brother, my side of the story will be told soon,” he told Seven News.Dozens of NRL and AFL players have descended on Bali since the end of their seasons with Instagram ablaze of young footballers enjoying their time off.
