Thanks to that nightclub standard about him by Bobby Darin, you might think the character Mack The Knife is one hep cat., then, the 1928 musical play the song is from. With text by Bertolt Brecht and score by Kurt Weill, this new production by Barrie Kosky for Berliner Ensemble still swings, but its social commentary will slap the complacency right out of you.Less finger-clickin’, more light-fingered, the original Mack The Knife leads a gang of street bandits who terrorise London .
The Peachams are none too happy with Mack going behind their back - nor are Tiger Brown’s daughter Lucy, or the prostitute Spelunken Jenny, whom our ‘hero’ also has on the go. The Peacham family in The Threepenny Opera: Polly , Celia and Jonathan Jeremiah ascribes no motives to its street-hardened characters, and thus stops short of portraying them as evil. For Brecht it is clearly the capitalist system driving people to the depravity we see on stage, although the argument was probably made most cogently by Weill’s melodies, a delightful almalgam of the classical and cabaret.

Adelaide Mother Advocates for CPR Training After Saving Son's LifeAn Adelaide mother who saved her son’s life after he had a cardiac arrest is advocating for more people to learn CPR. Nurse Libby Thomas, 34, said her eight-year-old son, Jacob, woke up on January 15 complaining of itchy skin. Thinking it was eczema, Thomas started to apply cream to Jacob’s skin, before the young boy suddenly fainted and hit his head on the floor. Thomas called triple-0, but while she was on the phone, her son stopped breathing. Thomas said she went into “autopilot” and started to perform CPR, before the ambulance arrived to take Jacob to hospital. Thomas, who is a nurse, and has instructed trainings on CPR for Surf Life Saving SA, knew what to do in the freighting situation. She said regardless of profession, every person should be trained to perform CPR.
