As the compromise leader, neither the left nor the right has any desire to tear him down. And by willing to compromise on climate change, he has somehow found middle ground where there was none. The two Coalition splinter groups seemed implacably apart – one wanting a full-blown retreat, including a withdrawal from the Paris agreement, the other wanting to go further than already committed., but with a major caveat.
In 2016 Malcolm Turnbull was at least initially content to glide to the finish line, assuming his own popularity compared to Bill Shorten would translate to votes and seats. Scott Morrison has been a very different opponent. Short sharp answers, never afraid to go negative, hard to pin down on policy answers, and not deviating from a response no matter how much a question is rephrased.
On the other side the Coalition is hoping to win back several seats from independents, although Tony Abbott is facing an uphill battle. It also thinks it can pick off a couple in Tasmania from Labor, as well as Herbert in Queensland and Lindsay in New South Wales.

Unfortunately in peak hour with our crowded trains this sort of thing was bound to happen. On trams sometimes you end up missing your stop because you can't get through the crowd to get off!
