A Climate Council report released today reveals Queensland suffered higher economic damages from extreme weather disasters than any other Australian state or territory.

abc.net.au/news/climate-council-report-impact-queensland-east-coast-australia/101695572Queensland suffered more economic damage from extreme weather disasters than any other state or territory, and more extreme weather is on the way.The former QFES commissioner says the disaster management system is under pressureA Climate Council report released today has examined the financial, social and economic costs of climate change-driven weather events.

Brisbane suffered about $1.38 billion in insured losses from this year's floods, more than any other local government area in Australia., which found changes to weather and climate extremes are happening at an increased pace across the country.

Former commissioner Lee Johnson said he began to notice an increase in natural disasters in 2006 after Tropical Cyclone Larry. "They live in communities. And they're impacted by what's happening in the disaster sense, just as much as anybody else."Mr Johnson believes there's room to evolve coordination between governments to better respond to weather disasters.

"That's getting harder and harder, so some thought has to go into how can we cross-border support each other better? What mechanisms can be introduced that might make that easier?"Innes Larkin, co-owner of Mount Barney Lodge in South East Queensland.

Lol

How about the impact of URBAN GROWTH that is causing the problem.

1.1d/100y world data, Australian data 2d/100y after adjusting early century data downwards by factoring same error as 1961-1990 period. Its getting closer to the medieval warm period. Rainfall constant

Global warming…🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤡

Why do you left wing journalists lie?

Nonsense. Stop lying, it’s weather.

By what definition are these climate events extreme? Rather than catchy prose, perhaps the author(s) of this article should have it proof read by someone with a science background. Some perspective would be sensible to better explain how often these events occur.

The Brisbane River burst its banks on three occasions in February 1893. It was the occurrence of three major floods in the same month that saw the period named 'Black February'. There was also a fourth flood later in the same year in June.

Yep I'm experiencing Qld global climate catastrophe. Victorians do not come here, it's terrible. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

And anyone who is against Nuclear as Part of the solution is Not about saving the Planet, but for Political alliances. Queensland is the Perfect place for Nuclear to play an important role in Decarbonization of Power generation while delivering affordable, Reliable stable power.

More climate change scare mongering

Have a look at that photo . Where there is no houses there is no trees apart from next to water -No Wonder we have problems

That image is of a flood, caused by extreme weather. It's happened before and it will happen again.

Climate change is a lie and they rig the evidence!

Floods getting worse?

psuedo-scienctific dark emu science ratbaggery ABC, I do NOT want to pay your ratbag lying salaries

if the 3% human emissions causes 'climate change', why doesn't the natural 97%?

Australia has been a land of extremes, since well before European arrival. We only have a short period of written records to judge from, and a long history of researchable physical evidence which we ignore

We ignore, or 'adjust' records, DESPITE knowing, even in our short, recorded, history, that weather extremes are the 'norm'. We ignore climate history from coral rings, tree rings. We even ignore our own records Why? What agenda drives this?

Building on a flood plain, in places Aboriginal people didn't make camp, because of flood risk (they warned early settlers), continually building more, and lower, means greater losses. Flood plains, silt banks, MEAN was previously under water!! Brisbane disasters will continue.

Dear ABC could you please differentiate between ClimateChange claims, and a changes due to the long term cyclic changes. Brisbane is BUILT on a flood plain, silt banks Current conditions are cyclic

Who would have guessed the State that has almost all the nations cyclones would have the most storm damage?

It is not climate change, it is the weather.

That is a LIE

ABC, the climate catastrophizers.

AnnastaciaMP Brisbane inner suburbs drains blocked as planned by new system. But no one planned for water to back up and flood. See Suncorp Stadium photos of last two floods. The last floods shows fresh clear water Poor BCC planning should have pumps.

they deserve it with all their coal export

Stop Brisbane City Council from developing low areas. Water has not flood Plains to go.

Climate Council 🤡 🤡 🤡

Bullshit

FACT CHECK : BULLSHIT

The planet is 4 billion years old and has always been changing. How do you think we have Fjords and fish fossils in deserts? Enough with faux fear mongering to bring in the NWO

From the article, have these figures been adjusted for inflation? If not, the 1980s were more than twice as costly as the 2010s. Serious question

and yet so many of them will pretend it’s not happening, particularly in the most affected areas

The ABC pushing its agenda again. Indoctrination in full speed.

Let’s create a tax with anyone who owns a vehicle that’s not electric!!! That’ll fix the problem. Time to beat it with the climate change bullshit everyone is finally realising it’s a scam

Climate change hahaha 😆

Just another money scam by the government Decades ago We were all told we'd be under water, frozen and burnt to a crisp

. Look at the photo of the river. Why is the river there? This is NOT climate change. It is climate normal. Always was Always will be.

Record highs for the past 56yrs. I think Queensland will be alright fear mongers

News flash, you ain't seen nothing yet. But just keep digging up that coal and it'll all be just dandy...

As if. Give it up will you?

4 million people die from indoor pollution PA Climate Change saves Lives PS: U Have been CONNED

What a load of

DefundtheABC

Ahem tell that to residents of Lismore Forbes Molong Eugowra Mouleimein Wagga etc. NSW has been in flood most of the year

The government and council allow building on flood plans and then blame climate change crazy.

Deformation too Great

To stop the UN Fact-Finding Commission to have access to crime evidence, the IR issues false death certificates, stops access to the prisoners and doesn't allow the media to interview families of murdered people. The forensic too issues false evidence. be our voice🙏 MahsaAmini

Oh rubbish

Lies, pure lies.

Just wait till a cyclone destroys Brisbane and the gold coast …. climate change will be shouted so loud you won’t hear the rooftops falling back to the ground. And I’m here old enough to remember cyclones making landfall in NSW.

Govt and council, let ppl buy and build houses in flood zones, now being bought back, and its climate change? 🙄
