Viral videos of 74-year-old Nina Baginskaya confronting burly young police officers have become some of the most famous images of the uprising in Belarus.

So thousands of women took their place, forming their own protest groups among friends and neighbours.

After months of being arrested on a regular basis, Nina might be the only protester police dare not detain. There's no such guarantee for others who take to the streets. Videos circulating on social media show riot police raiding flats and dragging out protesters. Despite a police crackdown on the movement in Belarus, Nina holds firm to an unshakeable conviction that Lukashenko's days are numbered.Nina Baginskaya has been an activist since the Chernobyl disaster, which inspired her to fight for Belarus's independence from the Soviet Union.Lukashenko banned the national flag in favour of the red and green Soviet-era banner, hoping to one day reunite with Russia.

He discouraged the Belarusian language in favour of Russian, and stamped out commemorations of the Chernobyl disaster. Police have banned media from filming the marches but protesters have been uploading video from their smartphones to independent websites.

Italy will close over Easter.
