New drone technology is being developed with the capability of planting 40,000 trees a day

Last month Australia saw one of the worst fire seasons on record, with extreme weather events predicted to become more frequent. The World Wide Fund for Nature estimates that 8.4 million hectares have been burnt, with forests expected to take decades to recover.

The seed pods, encased in a such a way to prevent them from being eaten before they can germinate, are pumped up with additional nutrients and probiotics to encourage growth success. "To grow and replant all of [the species] is just not practical, so we tend to focus on the primary habitat providers ... you need to fast-track the base of the ecosystem to a significant level, so that the rest of the system can start to re-establish," he said.
