As Jim Chalmers flags the need for tough decisions in the October 25 budget, experts say pet projects from both sides of politics should be on the chopping block.

and about $1.1 billion set to be spent on the state’s Paradise and Urannah dam projects should be reviewed. He welcomed comments from Prime Minister Anthony Albanese that projects which have not begun construction could be among those under scrutiny.

“But we’ve just had the [Victorian] Parliamentary Budget Office come out and say they think the eastern and northern sections to build and operate for 50 years will cost $200 billion – so at least four times as much,” Ms Terrill said. “You’re destroying value if you proceed with this,” Ms Terrill said, adding that it had not been subject to an independent assessment by Infrastructure Australia.Another commitment Ms Terrill would scrap is the federal government’s $500 million funding to acquire land for fast rail along the Sydney-to-Newcastle corridor.

“If you blow a generation’s worth of infrastructure investment on one project, you want to make sure it’s a really good one,” Ms Terrill said. The cost of former deputy prime minister Barnaby Joyce’s pet inland rail project has also blown out, and Ms Terrill wants the government to put together a new business case.

Dr Denniss said Labor should pause the inland rail project, currently the subject of an independent review by former Energy Security Board chairwoman Kerry Schott.

Jim Chalmers ‘tells it as it is’ ahead of budgetFormer Labor minister Graham Richardson says Treasurer Jim Chalmers isn’t a person of “trickery” but instead goes out and “tells it as it is” ahead of Labor’s upcoming budget. “He’s preparing us for a few knocks and that’s probably what he should do,” he told Sky News Australia. “If you’re a treasurer preparing a budget which is going to hurt in a few places, I think signalling that is not a bad thing.” Well Labor do cut every time they're in and punish the middle class so I wouldn't be surprised if they cut. Jim is clueless and is already fucking things up more like it. Like all labor budgets it will heavy on taxes and nothing to help the average Australia with the cost of living which is something a lot of people are struggling with right now and it needs to be addressed now. All fluff no substance. He’s a great communicator, but he’s had 5 months to do something/anything to address soaring inflation and spiralling interest rates. Nothing! Pre-election he said he had a plan… no, he clearly never had a plan.

Albanese is stuck in a ‘spending bubble’Treasurer Jim Chalmers needs to “pull his boss aside” and tell him to stop writing cheques, says Sky News host Chris Smith says. “The PM seems way off track, almost in his own little spending bubble. Which of course, is Labor's classic DNA,” Mr Smith said. “The government knows that being so early in their term it can get away with upsetting sectors of the community by cutting plenty of fat. “Jim Chalmers seems to be a conservative treasurer in a Labor government. “If what we're hearing is right, that he'll cut out the waste, but grow the economy too, especially with big ticket numbers, he'll gain a lot of cred out of his first budget.” Chris smith! Hahahahahahahahaha NewsCorpse should just look within when making up bullshit 🙄 Have CryNews been getting calls from the LNPCrimeFamily and LNPCorruptionParty who are advocating for Rinehardt and Gerry Harvey complaining about kickbacks having dried up🙄 You should ‘pull your boss aside’ and tell him to stop making you post this nonsense.
