Clive Palmer's United Australia Party has failed to win a single seat despite spending more than both the major parties on election advertising. auspol ausvotes19 Election2019Results

Clive Palmer’s United Australia Party has failed to win a single seat despite spending more than both the major parties on election advertising.

The populist party’s canary yellow advertisements were plastered all over newspapers, websites and billboards in the lead up to Saturday’s poll. But the billionaire’s estimated $60 million campaign spend resulted in the UAP claiming 3.4 per cent of the national vote, and Mr Palmer falling well short of the necessary votes to win a Senate seat.“That’s the end of Clive,” Professor Williams told SBS News.

He said it shows voters saw through Mr Palmer’s “clumsy, shouty” political advertisements, but he doubted the mining magnate would be too disappointed by the result. “He is very happy to play a role in keeping Bill Shorten out of the lodge.” In fact, Mr Palmer was claiming credit for the Coalition win on Saturday night, telling reporters: “I’ve saved Australia from a trillion dollars of extra taxes and costs”.

Labor Deputy Leader Tanya Plibersek said the UAP’s negative advertising contributed to their shock loss.

He was a con

Surprisingly if he spent much at all.

He got a coal mine plus a coal fired power station to burn the filthy coal in

Palmer may have failed to win a seat, but he's going to start digging a hole for himself, right next to Adani, and with the blessing of a compliant government grateful for his support. auspol

That wasn’t the motivation it was to keep the LNP in power to protect his business

Correction. Clive Palmer donated $60M to liberal party by attacking Labor and directing preferences to the liberals. The laws seem to have big holes in them when it comes to donors shoveling money to the coalition. Is corruption “cool and normal” now? auspol2019 AusVotes2019

He never wanted a seat, he wanted, and got, leverage.

His preferences got many LNP over the line. He did a deal with them and was granted a new mine.

🤣🤣🤣 Do you think he gives a stuff about it? He got his 'business as usual' back and a lot more will come...

But good enough to keep the labour out

I predicted this at the sight of the first tv ad, preferences from UAP went straight to the liberals - There was no Morrison miracle only a scare campaign prosecuted by the billionaires who control the media and the mining industries.

It was never about getting a seat. He has bought the LNP and will be rewarded with a go ahead on his coal mine in the Galilee basin.

There is something rotten about some parts of Queensland and I honestly dont know what it is!!!! Why do so many vote OneNation, ClivePalmer and Fraser Anning in Queensland - this is not a one off. I have been 2 Queensland on holidays & even worked in Brisy 4 6 months.

He got what he wanted, though!

Thanks for the votes says LiberalAus

$60 million could have been better spent paying his Workers. If his workers OK and well treated then you could assume he would do the same for the country.

What is it with extremely overweight rich people in this country. Gina and Clive. Two of the richest people who could use a fucking sub.

What a simplistic take. He and the LNP got exactly what they wanted.

peterthugheswin I seriously considered a vote for him until I was bombarded with text messages, had Yodi sneering on my TV in every ad break along with every other dumbarse ad. Oh, and the nano documentary of the Chinese invasion. Then he wouldn't pay his mine workers. FOClive PalmerUtdParty

When will the thoroughly dishonest mass media understand that winning seats was NOT the point of his campaign!

he may not have won any seats but certainly bought quite a few to ensure a victory for the Lying Nasty Pricks without any vision or policies beyond keeping their own jobs. auspol Election2019Results

I gather his aim was to consolidate business environment in Qld.

Does he care? Isn't it all about getting his mine up and going, up near Adani? After all the work he did writing off Bill is it likely he won't be rewarded?

Bloke's an absolute rocket, eh?

CliveFPalmer made the election of the Liberal Party possible. LiberalVictoria owe Palmer BIG TIME.

it's what he deserves

Australia saw through his BS and having advertising spammed at us didn't help his cause. Too bad Australians didn't see through the LNP's BS as well :P auspol

Can't look after himself, and he want's to run the country Pppfftt..

Palmer is a joke. Good job Australia 🇦🇺

jpw84

United Australia and One Nation parties were king makers in Queensland giving preferences to coalition.

However it did destroy a potential ALP PM

Should have given it to the needy! clivepalmerm 9NewsQueensland australian

Oh Clive😢

Excellent threads. Please read to understand what happened in Queensland.

One can only hope so.

The $60 mill he invested will come back in spades.

Good job!

Bombergrl2000 Not a seat...but a government indebted to his $60 million

Let’s see if he sticks to his word to pay of the Townsville workers

😂 he couldn't give a stuff. And still doesn't. That 60 million will be recovered 10 fold, when his new mine next to Adani is given approval by the very Government he saved.

Don’t underestimate how many UAP preferences fed through to Libs /NP to help them get elected. Thx Clive

80million 😂

Good, on your bike

Even if he got in, he wouldn't turn up anyway like last time. He should have spent the $ on paying his workers

Dear oh dear oh dear.....what a 'surprise' ! So glad to see that ordinary everyday Australians saw through his stupidity and fallibility!!👍💯⭐️

Live said his intention was keeping shortasse n labooorrrt out 👍👌🏿 Well done ✅💐💐💐

Has CliveFPalmer actually paid the $60 million or just run it up on credit?

I predicted this but it’s not gloating as his preferences went to the liberals and even Pauline Hanson according to channel 7

Dont worry, he knew what he was doing - his cheque is in the mail!

We're not gonna take it anymore...! deesnider

Some good in all this disastrous results

deesnider celebrate!🤣

He may have not got in but he’ll be smiling

I guess he achieved a great deal, since he presented the arguments against the alp/green policies better than the lnp did.

The question is: why did he do it? What type of advantages is he looking forward to?

At last, the ripped off nickel mine funds can be free.

Muppet

How is it that us everyday Aussies KNOW that Clive actually Won!! He got exactly what he wanted and will make FAR more than his 80 Mil investment. Yet you News guys actually think he lost? Are you stupid or Complicit

Now pay your debt Clive.

His objective is achieved and will gain more $$$$ than getting a seat in Parliament. People choose to trust one of the most unworthy persons in politics in the country.

Trump praised wikileaks and won. ALP sold out freeAssange and lost to a fraud who can’t manage his bowel movements let alone the country. EngadineMaccas

There is SOME KARMA at least!! THOSE MINERS should still 'COLLECTIVELY' SUE him though!! It has shown he has the MONEY!!😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

Think I'll get drunk (day after election night) & I don't actually drink! ** Language Warning** (My naughty nephew from a few years back but might fit occasion?!)

Maybe Clive's ads won it for the Libs

He's going to get mining permits. The investment in handing ScoMo seats is well worth it. uap auspol19 lnp

It's all good. ScuMo will make it more than worth his while. See mining opportunities. Two rotten peas.

Glad that this embarrassment found out he couldn't buy his way into politics. Couldn't even come up with an original marketing campaign.

That money could have built a hospital or put to good use in a community. Btw who is Clive Palmer?

Couldn’t pay his workers distasteful blob

Clive accomplished exactly what he set out to do, which was keep the status quo. The preference deal was certainly worked out in advance, and I suspect the ads campaign was just a component of this plan. Upside, I don't have to see his stupid ads on Youtube or online anymore 🤪

iansmith_adl Imagine if CliveFPalmer had a modicum of social intelligence the good he could have done for Australians with all that money. AusPol

It's almost like winning a seat wasn't really the main goal. Every mobster knows, you don't get your own hands dirty. Arms length.

Palmer got what he paid for - a federal government that chants 'coal is good'.

On the contrary, he just bought a COALition win. His scare tactics helped drive people to the devil they know. His massive coal mine is now on the table.

DianneCostin Well that was never the plan was it. I think Clive will be saying “money well spent” within 12 months.

Wasn't he funded by mining and Murdoch to support the coalition? Small bikkies.

But he won big time

Clive and rupert will want a huge return on their investments

Some of us knew this would occur. The mob recognise wind-baggery when they see it.

He served his purpose, though.

BrettMasonNews He never wanted to win. He didnt give support to his candidates. He knew he would claim his investment spend back as a tax deduction, and would also be rewarded with a new mine and would make Billions back. Congratulations Australia your Taxes will be paying for Palmer for yrs

I don’t think he gives to shits — watch the kickbacks from LNP for good old Clive

He achieved his goal. He has helped the LNP back into government and now they can approve his mega mine near Adani. The LNP owe him and he will make them pay.

I am shedding tears of joy!!!

It's not about the money, but..

Yeah and his preferences got the smirking fossil overthe line

Hoorah!

Indeed but he will get a quidproquo with his 80 million dollar “investment” approval to construct a super mine right next to Adani...

He’ll still consider it a good spend and...........he’ll be spot on.

Well that’s one positive outcome from this regressive shitshow.

Thank Christ for that. Can't help but agree that his presence set the bar so low it helped the LNP.

😂😂😂

We will have to wait to see if they get paid for, somehow I sense unless he had to cough up upfront he might renege, he is not that best at meeting his obligations

Also any of his dealings in buisness should be open to public so public can see if any bribes, favours, corruption is involved

He didn't want a seat. He wanted to make sure the LNP got back in to approve his mines.

his preferences helped stop ALP. LNP used Palmer to do the dirty work/campaign.

But his preferences may have won the election for the LNP. Has to be some quid pro quo.

He will expect favours for sure. He definitely not spending that money for only a preference to liberals. He should be locked up in jail for when he refused to pay his workers as that is plain stealing but under Libs and Law they protect the rich like this.

There is not a lot for some of us to be thankful for in this election result but at least Australia didn't fall for Palmer's advertising blitz.

He helped to get the government he wanted and they owe him big time; welcome to Trumps Australia. Money may not be able to buy love but it sure can buy a conservative government

He wasn't in it to win, he was an unofficial donor to the Liberal party so he could buy his mining rights.

Actually, Clive Palmer has won. Keeping Labor out of office was partly his contribution. Also, massive influence through preference deals with Liberals and Nationals.

He is not gone he will continue to destroy our Australia along with LNP and ON. He is not that silly he has brought the LNP the win they shouldn’t have gotten. 😢

He got exactly what he needed.

But he won in the end. Negative campaigning works. It's sad that us Australians don't know how well we actually have it.

Clive theme song ☺

He wasn’t there to win a seat 🤦🏽‍♀️ OPEN YOUR EYES. 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 He was the Patsy SHIT do better and Ask where all that money came from.

See ya Clive Palmersaurus

Fuckoffclive oh wait, it worked this time! ✌😆

A fool and his money are soon parted.

He won. He won big with whatever slimy deal he made with bubbles for preferences

But watch Clive make billions with ScoMo’s help

Clive Palmer must not buy his way into ParliamentIt is hard to believe that voters have forgotten so quickly Mr Palmer's questionable record both in and out of Parliament. What’s the difference between him and the Unions buying Bill into the Lodge? Lol, he has a lot of competition in that Parliament when it comes to people having 'questionable records'. last i understood people of free-will are allowed to vote for Clive if they want to. He's not paying people for their votes. Democracy at work. Any more than billshortenmp actually is paying people to vote for him by nature of his swag of tax changes.
