The party failed to make much of a mark after 2013 when Mr Palmer won a lower house seat and three Senate seats thanks to a similar advertising splurge financed by his nickel and iron ore businesses.Without any coherent platform, the Senate team disintegrated and Mr Palmer himself was notable mostly for attending only 54 per cent of parliamentary votes.
The refinery, which had made huge donations to Mr Palmer's political campaigns, collapsed in 2016 owing workers more than $65 million. Mr Palmer has refused to pay workers what they are owed, hiding behind a complicated corporate structure. Summoned to a special liquidator's hearing, Mr Palmer said he was too sick to answer questions about the whereabouts of his nephew, the managing director who decamped overseas.
Despite all this, opinion polls show that once again a significant percentage of voters are persuaded by his nonsense and will vote for him on Saturday. Voters should however compare Mr Palmer's empty slogans with his almost non-existent achievements and find out the facts about his role at Queensland Nickel. When Mr Palmer accuses the ALP of selling out to China, they should understand that his main business is an iron ore mine deal with the Chinese. They should also ask questions about whether he will use his political power to help his businesses.
Kindacalm
Trump did
Feed him to the poor...

tbf he's not buying his way in, the Coalition is just preferencing him to spite a country that doesn't want them. They're salting the earth, and he's the salt.
What would stop buying seats through spending millions is for the govt to have publicly funded election campaigns with a cap for each party based on the size of their representation in percentage terms for smaller parties & equal funding for bigger parties. Auspol
Why not somebody has to stand up to soft politicians .. or we will have nothing. .. this once great country has been raped of all its resources for to long.... our own people living in poverty. .. we are heading to become a 3rd world country ...
But he probably will, using other peoples money to do it, what a disgrace.
It shouldn't be possible for people to buy themselves a seat. Nobody should have a better chance of winning just because of wealth. Maybe that's why it's all so stuffed up already.
Unconscionable that he’s used his $$ to get a candidate in every electorate, and non-stop ads on YouTube, top hit on Google for any election search. Buying himself a seat. auspol AUSVote19 auspol2019
The 'FAT TOAD' will only SLEEP thru SITTINGS until it comes to voting on BIG BUS. TAX RELIEF!! Thats what HE did until getting EMISSIONS TAX SCRAPPED!!🤪😡🤪😡🤪😡
Wow are his supporters donating to NGO's to get around donation limits?
Kind of hilarious that this page has at least one UAP advertisement on it. auspol ausvotes ausvotes2019
Basically the same as GetUp and the Labor Party. More Bs from the smh just spewing it out.
Could have refused his advertising
Excellent editorial, however it would have been a stronger argument if Nine Newspapers refused to take his ad spend. The fact it did, makes much of this argument redundant IMO. We definitely need an overhaul of candidacy on all sides of politics. ausvotes AusVotes2019 auspol
bencubby too late
You’re editorial is hypocritical- shouldn’t have sold ad space then, on any of your platforms.
He will fit right in.A compulsive liar.
Well, that's interesting, because everyone else does: what's Shorten do: bidding with tax payers dollars, at least Palmers not bribing the electors
Says a media outlet only too happy to take his money for full pages of advertising. auspol ausvotes
IIreckon But he is
2/2 Who pays for the ABC to shamelessly push a Labor/Green Agenda ? We pay $1.2 Billion for the “ pleasure “
Why ? The Unions etc Pay Labor”s way in , similiary the Greens & supposed Independents , Why Not Clive ? At least he pays his own way ! Getting worried Leftist SMH ? Clive”s preferences may get the LNP Home ?
geebeeWA Qld showing that Trump is not just US phenomenon, Palmer is a low rent version, I would never have thought possible. How soon they forget.
But he will. Talked to a PUP voter yesterday. No idea about, nor interest in, anything other than Palmer getting up the nose of the establishment. One and only issue. Thief? Don’t care. Self server? Don’t care. Sticks it to the main parties? YEAH, YEAH, YEAH!!!!!!
Too late he’s done it
Rules allow squillionaires to blanket advertise. Same as Murdoch pushing one side of politics; LNP recently, but also Hawke in the 80s & famously Whitlam in 72. Or the ABC with their pro progressive stance which is being rewarded by greater funding from Shorten. It is what it is
Last time.... zzzzzzzz
He really is scaring people isn’t he.
I did see an add the other day with him saying pensions will rise $150 per week. Seriously where is this money going to come from. It's unrealistic stupidity but people will vote for him because of this. I hope to god he doesn't get in, but i won't be holding my breath.
The Coalition is trying hard to get Palmer elected.
last i understood people of free-will are allowed to vote for Clive if they want to. He's not paying people for their votes. Democracy at work. Any more than billshortenmp actually is paying people to vote for him by nature of his swag of tax changes.
I have a feeling Palmer will suffer from a classic sunk cost fallacy and think he now needs to spend twice as much at the next election. If only like the Titanic he'd sink without a trace. ausvotes
Why not? Everyone else does.
Lol, he has a lot of competition in that Parliament when it comes to people having 'questionable records'.
What’s the difference between him and the Unions buying Bill into the Lodge?
