The day that worries the woke: The left hate Anzac Day because it celebrates the ‘colonial’ qualities of resourcefulness and courage that define Australianism
Anzac Day worries the woke because it celebrates a confident Australian popular culture; it celebrates the qualities of the Anzacs such as—courage, tenacity, stoicism, egalitarianism, resourcefulness, and mateship. What Gallipoli, and the Anzac tradition, did was to dramatically crystalise the Australian character, and give the young Australian nation a defining legend.
The left’s increasingly bitter attempts to convince us there is nothing to celebrate about our colonial past is exactly why ordinary Australians must mark Anzac Day’s celebration of courage and mateship with more fervour and reverence than ever, writes Kel Richards. Picture: Leon Neal/Getty Images The left wingers loved this stuff, and the play was set as part of the school curriculum for years to come. And the Left were bitterly disappointed that Anzac marches grew in numbers and popularity—instead of fading away as they had hoped. And every year they loudly protest against what they claim is a celebration of militarism.Given the power the woke now hold over Australia’s culture, I suspect that Peter Weir’s 1981 movie ‘Gallipoli’ could not be made today.
And, by the way, Anzac is no longer an acronym—it is now officially a word: that means the “A” is upper case and the rest of the letters should be lower case.
