Infectious Diseases Specialist Professor Sanjaya Senanayake spoke with Sky News Peta Credlin of the benefits of using a mask, in light of the fact the coronavirus is “spread by droplet transmission”.

Professor Senanayake said “when people cough and sneeze, droplets of infection come out of the nose and the mouth but they fall very quickly within 1.5 metres of the person”. “We still think the best time for someone to use a mask is if they are going outdoors and they themselves are sick so they don’t cough and sneeze on other people”.

“If everyone were to use a mask there would be a risk reduction from getting COVID-19, but you would have to have a lot of the virus in your society to get that benefit”. Professor Senanayake said it was for this reason masks were used more regularly in countries hard-hit by the coronavirus, while many Australians have continued to go about their daily business without masks. ‘We can’t trust’ whether ‘the truth’ on COVID-19 will be told: Bolt | Sky News AustraliaSky News host Andrew Bolt says he is getting “so suspicious” of the things and information Australians are being told and the “exaggerations” being fed to induce panic in society on COVID-19. \n\n“I am not denying the virus is dangerous,” Mr Bolt said. \n\n“But, so many things we were told turned out to be untrue or exaggerated,” when it comes to the deadly pathogen, he said. \n\nMr Bolt said the fact Australians were told between 50,000-150,000 citizens would die due to the virus was in fact “completely wrong”. \n\n“We were told we'd run out of intensive care beds by April 5. Again, completely wrong”. \n\n“We were told that golf had to be banned to save lives. Nonsense”. \n\nHe said he is “not sure” he can “trust that many people any more to tell us the plain, calm, straight truth” in relation to the virus. \n Are we all sure this is not satire? 😐 I would trust science before I trusted Andrew Bolt's 'suspicions'. Really, in 2020, how many people give a fuck about what Bolt says about anything. Kick his arse to the kerb sky.

Cost of COVID-19 restrictions in regional areas exacerbated by 'low foot traffic' | Sky News AustraliaVacy Hall Toowoomba Director Graham Higgins said the impact of coronavirus restrictions upon his business had been “really difficult” and “really costly”. \n\nBusinesses in Toowoomba have been denied the chance to have Easter trade, long weekend trade and Anzac day trade and still suffer under a range of coronavirus-related restrictions enforced by the Queensland government. \n\nMr Higgins said restrictions on trading days had cost him $60,000 dollars over the last two months in lost revenue.\n\n“If you add it up across the whole industry it’s probably a nine-billion-dollar cost across the state where we’ve got 250,000 people working in the tourism and hospitality industry in Queensland,” he told Sky News host Paul Murray. \n\n“That is 250,000 families and lives effected by the COVID-19 shut-down”. \n\nMr Higgins said, the loss of the “drive market” from Brisbane, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, the cancellation of flights from Sydney and Melbourne and the complete lack of international visitors had really “hurt” business. \n\nImage: News Corp Australia
