Australia have won the first Ashes Test in Brisbane by nine wickets, giving Pat Cummins the dream start to his captaincy career.

Make sure you stick around for all the news and analysis from our team.It was not quite the complete performance by Australia but in some ways they would have preferred winning the game in this fashion than by a cakewalk.

Carey took every opportunity that came to him behind the stumps. Outside of that, he was barely noticed, which is not a bad thing for a gloveman. The only downside was two cheap dismissals with the bat. Surely, James Anderson and Stuart Broad return for the pink-ball Test, perhaps at the expense of Chris Woakes and Jack Leach, who was exposed. Leach’s omission would leave the side short of a spinner and result in five seamers, which, even in a day-night game, seems overs.

The door was ajar for England this morning, but it was slammed shut by the Australians, who were clinical on the fourth day.Alex Carey’s gone - caught behind for nine. That will take a little bit of enjoyment out of his first celebratory beer. Instead, it will be wicketkeeper Alex Carey who will get a chance to hit the winning runs on debut. He’s partnering Marcus Harris at the top of the order.I’m not sure if he will, but he is allowed despite not having been on the field during England’s innings.
