Draft departmental documents about future fishing rights in Aboriginal waters across the Top End have been leaked to the ABC, prompting the Northern Territory government to threaten legal action to prevent publication of the details.

But after submitting questions to the office of the minister on Monday about whether he shared the concerns, the ABC was sent an email from the office of the Solicitor for the Northern Territory.

But 24 hours later, the government's lawyers wrote again to say they were now instructed not to seek an injunction. The letter provided no reason for the government's backflip. In the 14 years since the court's decision, a series of short-term agreements have been brokered between the NT government and traditional owners to allow recreational fishers permit-free access to intertidal zones that sit over Aboriginal land. The most recent of those agreements — known as the Blue Mud Bay Implementation Action Plan — was signed two years ago, and included a $10 million commitment from the government to help the NLC set up an Aboriginal-owned fishing enterprise.

We are only one step from becoming a totalitarian regime.

It would seem to me to be their land, so as long as sound environmental practices take place, they can do whatever they like 🤷‍♀️

They hunt turtles and dugongs. Where is the outrage about that?

Apparently the indigenous don’t have a voice but they have privileged fishing zones for themselves .

Maybe stop hunting ENDANGERED turtles and dugongs for starters .

One thing that they have got to do is stop hunting turtles and dugongs. Thats just not right.

You're acting like this is about recreational fishing but really it's the commercial fisheries kicking up a stink about having to ask (and possibly pay) traditional owners for oceans they normally plunder freely. Though the NLC should charge commercial but leave recreational free

This is the disaster that are Land Councils. It is Australian waters, not aboriginal.

If 'Enshrining a First Nations Voice in the Australian Constitution' referendum is going to be successful then this issue must be resolved so that all people can access these waters - statements like 'Aboriginal land and sea country is privately owned' will be weaponised..

So Australians aren't allowed to enjoy recreational fishing without seeking permission from Indigenous owners in the NT. Tell me again why there is a need for a voice to parliament. SkyNewsAust newscomauHQ

Some people shouldn’t have more rights than other people. This is getting ridiculous.

As AFL clubs hunt for the next big thing, one rising star might be the most valuable player in the leagueWith the AFL trade period in full swing and clubs already looking towards the draft, Cody Atkinson and Sean Lawson look at which player is the most valuable commodity moving forward. Unfortunately it won’t be on their skill as a footballer but their willingness to adopt the woke mantra & fit in with the diversity quota & the desire to be fully controlled by their employer 24x7 to think, act, behave as instructed thus ensuring social credit system is the norm Seems the algorithm only ranks midfield-types. 🤷‍♂️ Not sure quite how validated, given the sample scores.

Biden one of the ‘biggest propagators of lies’ in US historyUS President Joe Biden was “pandering” when he said during a recent speech he was “raised in the Puerto Rican community at home, politically”, says comedian Alex Stein. Mr Stein pointed to when Dr Jill Biden also compared Latinos to breakfast tacos. “It’s all projection, it’s all about race, it’s all about sex, it’s all about some sort of affirmative action that they’re trying to appeal to the minorities or the marginalised people,' he told Sky News host Rowan Dean. “It’s all lies, and Joe Biden is one of the biggest propagators of lies in United States history.” Joe Biden wasn't sure what he said, but hope he read it right when he said it. Congrats on you second term Joe Biden btw. Stunning victory. But not bigger than Iraq's WMD lies though I read the article. I don't know is satirising and who is the satirised. 2022. Twitter.
