Teenage producer in tears after ‘rip your throat out’ call from Massoud, court told | jennynoise

An 18-year-old social media producer based in Maroochydore was reduced to tears and went home early from work after he took a call from Seven NRL reporter Josh Massoud in 2018, a Sydney court has heard.

During his opening address on Monday, Mr Massoud’s barrister Tom Molomby, SC, said it was not a literal threat, given the “absurdity and unreality” of it, and the use of the words “if you weren’t so young and inexperienced” meant Mr Massoud was “not going to do that”. Mr Warren said he had no warning before Mr Massoud’s phone call and did not know who he was speaking with at first.Rather than identifying himself, Mr Warren said Mr Massoud asked him “who do you think this is?”

He said he felt “shocked and upset” and had never been spoken to that way, “even on a football field. He said he remembered Mr Massoud later telling him, “I admire you for putting your hand up” and admitting the error, but said it didn’t make him feel better. After he put the phone down, Mr Warren said his executive producer asked him what was said on the call and “I just burst out into tears”.
