A Tamil family have just 11 days to make their case for protection after they were spared immediate deportation to Sri Lanka.

The Federal Court extended an injunction preventing the government from removing a Tamil family’s two-year-old daughter from the country on Friday. The family will remain in Australia until at least 4pm on September 18 after a federal court delayed the hearing.

Priya and her husband arrived separately to Australia by boat several years ago, reportedly fleeing persecution in Sri Lanka. When Priya's temporary visa expired in 2018, the family was taken from its home in Biloela and held in a Melbourne detention centre before being transferred to Christmas Island last Saturday. Labor has ramped up pressure on the government to guarantee the fast-tracking of their case to re-enter Australia if they are forced to leave the country.

Not correct. There is 11 days till an interlocotory hearing about interim orders. Final hearing could be months away.

Colombo awaits

Send them back. Not refugees.

Stop playing with their lives, carry out the deportation and end this silliness.

4fs Piss off take the hint and piss off

Some can’t take a hint they’re not welcome.

7 Times they have tried in Courts & Tribunals claming to be refugees & They were Rejected, The high court also rejected their clams to be refugees, Now tax payers pay more $ to keep them in Australia. Fair Dinkum, This is a /////// Joke

fuckingDeportThemAlready

Maybe if the people raised $80,000 for each of the adults to “buy” a visa. That’s how much it cost a convicted NZ drug dealer to get a visa and live in Qld.

Democracy on show. You may not like it but it is what is.

Enough of listening to this shit

How much are Australian taxpayers paying to fund all these appeals? We have a right to know. This money could be better spent on schools and hospitals. These people entered Australia illegally and therefore have no legal rights

Government delays decision with the hope that everyone forgets about the family and they can be quietly deported.....

shortens fake medivac bill Health Minister Nauru 'deliberate ploy … to invade and undermine the health system of Nauru it questions the integrity and ethics of these advocates who will go to such lengths to achieve their malicious objective”

Another 11 days while the taxpayers forks out more money..to keep them here, after they've paid people smugglers to get here, liars and cheats.

Tamil family to stay another 12 days ahead of 'full and final' hearingThe asylum seeker Tamil family at the centre of a dramatic deportation bid will remain in Australia for at least another 12 days as their lawyers prepare for a 'full and final' hearing on the complex case. the 'drama' is all manufactured on the evidence, there's nothing controversial about sending them back whatsoever They really should be sent home, that would be best for them. Follow the rules and try again later. Morrison and Dutton have this one spot on. Interest to see what 'rabbit out the hat' the lawyers have. The kids are 1 year apart . If the eldest didn't qualify under the law , how does the youngest ? There hasn't been a law amendment during this time, or a precedent & SriLanka hasn't civilly descended .
