Opinion: NSW Planning Minister Anthony Roberts’ decision to ditch sustainable development principles may result in severe cost-of-living and health impacts for millions of people, writes Jeff Angel

The decision by the new NSW Minister for Planning, Anthony Roberts, to ditch ministerial planning principles begs that question. The principles were directed at making Sydney more climate ready and resilient, but now developers are confidently predicting that an essential set of design and place rules to protect and expand tree canopy, improve urban and building cooling and walkability, create more green spaces and achieve net zero will be dropped or massively amended.

Anthony Roberts was returned to the NSW planning portfolio in Premier Dominic Perrottet’s first ministerial reshuffle last December.Developers, with the connivance of past governments, have made a mess of Sydney’s basic environmental sustainability. Sydney is not ready for global warming – both as an emissions contributor and having to adapt to increasing urban heat.

The sheer financial cost incurred every year imposes an unequal burden compared to the cooler eastern parts of Sydney. The second critical path is to continue the push for more green spaces and achieving the Greater Sydney target of a 40 per cent tree canopy.Dallas Kilponen

Roberts is the smarmiest, most developer friendly parliamentarian EVER! Why do we put up with the inappropriate decisions he makes? Why is he even there? How does he get away with it? Must be verging on corrupt, surely.

This article is a load of fluff Any new residence must already comply with Basix/Nathers & meet the Sepp 65 design principles that include sustainable design The Utopian principles proposed by Stokes were good in theory but would push housing affordability into oblivion

NSW announces inquiry into flood crisis after criticism of state’s responseActing premier says review will investigate preparedness for such catastrophic events, as well as response and recovery He could just ask Greg Mullins? Spending millions on an inquiry by a pentecostal mate of Morrisons with no emergency preparedness or response background other than managing road blocks stinks of yet another coverup. I wonder if the Banana Republic of NSW is preparing another inquiry stunt. Domicron turned Domiflood may bring some Spanish Inquisition experts. Mick fuller to head up the inquiry..., why bother with the pretence 🤔
