A man has been arrested on terrorism charges in Sydney after a seven-month Joint Counter Terrorism Team investigation.

The 24-year-old was taken into custody after police carried out search warrants in Chester Hill and Sefton yesterday.

The man was allegedly in possession of extremist material and improvised explosive instructions. Police allege he was a member of ISIS and believe he pledged his allegiance to the terror network. He's been charged with membership of a terrorist organisation and is set to appear at Parramatta Local Court.
