Sydney could be facing level two water restrictions by Christmas as dam levels continue to fall and the drought crisis shows no signs of ending.

for residents of Greater Sydney, the Blue Mountains and the Illawarra, with fines of $220 for individuals and $550 for businesses caught breaking the rules.

The current policy is for level two restrictions to kick in when Sydney’s dam levels hit 40 per cent some time around February — they’re currently at 46.6 per cent, down from 64.4 per cent this time last year — but NSW Water Minister Melinda Pavey says the government is considering bringing them in sooner.“If it doesn’t rain it is inevitable, whether it’s February or whether it’s sooner, that’s something the government is having conversations about.

“At the start of water restrictions we were about 200 litres per day and we’re now down to about 183 litres per day, so we are responding. I’m really grateful and proud that the community has listened, because it’s our resource together, we must respect it.”“Six months ago only 40 per cent of people were aware we were in drought conditions, and our latest research from Sydney Water is saying 80 per cent are very aware,” Ms Pavey said. “That is a positive thing.

Banksy exhibition wilts in the Sydney heatOne of the more unusual victims of the recent extreme weather appears to have been a controversial exhibition of work by the elusive street artist Banksy. It’s not worth it anyway. I saw it in Auckland where it was clear the exhibition has been assembled for one reason only ... to exit punters through the (very expensive) gift shop. I wonder what Banksy thinks of his art being so fragile. Not very 'street'. Nice try, but one suspects its closing due to lack of interest (I go by the site regularly & I've never seen anyone go in)
