A power failure causes all trams on test runs through the city to come to a halt on Wednesday, including one stuck straddling the busy intersection at Market and George streets.

Forty minutes later, just after 1:30pm, the tram was able to move away from the Market Street intersection under its own power.Sydneysiders on Twitter joked about the stalled tram, writing there was"chaos in Sydney" and"another transport mess".

"I saw the Sydney light rail in action," one user wrote."*fangirling!!! It stops in the middle of the road, no vehicle can cross. #Wednesday"Project plagued by cost blowouts Sydney's Light Rail project was announced by the government in December 2012 and major construction began in October 2015. Delays in construction began the next year, followed by two lawsuits — one launched by the construction company Acciona over misleading conduct before the contract was signed, and the second a class action lawsuit brought by businesses and property owners affected by the construction and delays.

The original budget for the light rail was $1.6 billion. That figure was revised to $2.1 billion in December 2014, before being exceeded by further cost blowouts.total cost of the light rail to more than $3 billionSections of Sydney's Light Rail are expected to open for passengers next month, the first time in more than 60 years that passenger trams have operated in the city.

Meanwhile.. Vienna's tram network has 29 lines with 1,071 stations forming a network of 176.9 km. They hardly ever break down and are rarely late. Efficiency holds up in all weather conditions.

What ever happened to the sky rail? Wait.... I think it Tassie brought it.

Metro breakdowns, Light rail breakdowns, funding for fire services cut. How is such an “efficient born to rule” government so hopeless at getting the basics right.

thoughts and prayers

Just imagine the NSW government as a satirical comedy. Trust me: it helps.

Another well conceived and reliable Liberal Party project delivered on time and on budget.

Another liberal mess

GladysB is really having a very bad week isnt she...

Thanks GladysB and AndrewConstance. Your lying of privatising, delivery of rubbish and denials of reality is really starting to piss me off.

Millions of dollars spent on running an endless system of EMPTY trams through the city .. and it still stuffs up the CBD !! How good is that !! Value for money there, eh !!

That's it abc - Put the liberal government down as much as possible.

Again!

Banksy exhibition wilts in the Sydney heatOne of the more unusual victims of the recent extreme weather appears to have been a controversial exhibition of work by the elusive street artist Banksy. It’s not worth it anyway. I saw it in Auckland where it was clear the exhibition has been assembled for one reason only ... to exit punters through the (very expensive) gift shop. I wonder what Banksy thinks of his art being so fragile. Not very 'street'. Nice try, but one suspects its closing due to lack of interest (I go by the site regularly & I've never seen anyone go in)
