New South Wales authorities issued an evacuation order to residents in the Sussex Inlet area last night as fears mounted over wild weather conditions coupled with coastal erosion threatening to uproot homes.

Residents in St George’s Basin and Sanctuary Point were also warned to be on alert for flooding following several days of heavy rain and strong winds.

NSW SES Deputy Commissioner Daniel Austin told Sky News a multitude of homes suffered storm damage from the South Coast region up to the bottom of Sydney’s metropolitan area. He said additional emergency crews were brought in to assist with supporting communities as around 6,000 homes remained without power in the South Coast area. The SES received more than 250 call outs on Monday night alone, taking the total number of calls for assistance to just less than 2,000 since Saturday.
