New South Wales is set to receive some of its best rain in months as the downpour across the state helps to further quash persistent bushfires.

At Sydney's Observatory Hill, 21mm was recorded between 9.30am and 11.30am on Friday. In the state's north, Bulahdelah received 112mm of rainfall and Bundarra 105mm. "That it is the wettest since 2011, so very welcome there," said Bureau of Meteorology Acting NSW Manager, Grahame Reader."The nature of the thunderstorms, however, and the very rapid rain means in some cases we've had 40 millimetres in 30 minutes."NSW rainfall totals for 16/01/2020.

The NSW SES on Friday morning said it had responded to 323 calls for help since Wednesday afternoon, mostly for leaky roofs.

TBlackwe85 We should mourn the 1 biilion animals who died. Time to have a memorial service.

I had to put the roof up on the car, on the drive to work this morning, but I’ll take the strain for the greater good... it needed a wash anyway...

But the smoke hangs around even with the rain. Can see it and smell it.

Scott didn't wait for the states to make a request. He called in the rain regardless. (I think it may be a ratings grab!)
