Railway workers, teachers and emergency room medics have launched one of the biggest public sector strikes in France for decades.

Railway workers, teachers and emergency room medics have launched one of the biggest public sector strikes in France for decades, determined to force President Emmanuel Macron to abandon plans to overhaul France's pension system.

"What we've got to do is shut the economy down," Christian Grolier, a senior official from the hard-left Force Ouvriere union, told Reuters."People are spoiling for a fight."Airport workers, truck drivers, police and garbage collectors and others are all expected to join the strike at a time of widespread discontent towards Mr Macron's drive to make France's economy more competitive and cut public spending.

He wants a single, points-based system under which for each euro contributed, every pensioner has equal rights.

Consumers and businesses are on strike and that's dragging the economy downIndustrial action may be at decade lows, but it's a strike by consumers and businesses, prompted by low wage growth, that's slowing the economy to a crawl, writes Stephen Letts. Is the ABC is actually willing for a recession ?. I am not on strike - I would love to go shopping but I have no money left after paying the bills - Tax, mortgage, rates, insurance, car, registration, fuel, utilities, food and then there is nothing left for nice things like dining out, nails, hair, clothes 😓😓😓 Interesting what's happening, yet here's a Government pressing ahead further with its ensuring integrity bill. As if that's going to change consumers minds when they don't have enough money to cover the bills already. A Government at a dead end, totally devoid of ides.
