Origin prop Christian Welch has been stood down by the Melbourne Storm after inviting a guest into the NRL bubble overnight.Melbourne were set to be freed from quarantine after midnight on Friday after spending 14 days in Queensland, but the guest arrived prior to midnight and therefore was in breach of the COVID-19 protocols.

“I know it’s a privilege to play in the NRL and I want to apologise to all for any damage I have caused.”Welch will not play against the Wests Tigers on Saturday afternoon.“There was a possible breach late last night with an unregistered guest coming onto the bubble’s premises and we’ve been in discussion with the NRL and Queensland government around those,” Storm chief executive Dave Donaghy said.
