Some shoppers refuse to wear masks as Melbourne adjusts to new must-have attire

Construction workers, dog walkers, police officers and people waiting for takeaway coffees across Melbourne were masked up on Thursday morning as the city adjusted to mandatory face covering.

Between 7am and 8am on Thursday, only two customers entered the Woolworths store on Smith Street in Fitzroy without a face covering.The store's managers did not stop the two men from entering the supermarket, saying they could not be sure the customers did not have a medical exemption.One shopper at the Woolworths in Fitzroy was not wearing a mask on Thursday.One of the men without a mask said he was in a difficult financial situation and was unable to afford masks.

Security staff at the shopping centres will ask people not wearing a mask if they have a valid reason not to be wearing one.
