Migrants must fully embrace Australian values, including learning English, in the face of new threats to social cohesion, the Department of Home Affairs has declared.
New migrants were encouraged to be"fully integrated members" of society, while practising cultural traditions within the law, free from discrimination. Prime Minister Scott Morrison hands out Australian flags to members of the Sebastien family, originally from India, at a citizenship ceremony in Canberra.Home Affairs, which is responsible for fostering social cohesion, said embracing Australia’s national identity was key to ensuring all migrants and citizens remain united.
The submission ranked English language acquisition, participation in the social and economic life of the nation, and understanding democratic institutions as key indicators of integration.

The maligned Africans are easily assimilated unlike most asians who refuse to teach their kids English until they start school
TheGrandBogan We could stop immigration. Problem solved. And a lot of other problems as well.

Australia is so racist we have a city named after Charles Darwin. Eugenics
Department of Home Affairs can get fucked.
Some migrants can’t fully integrate when a country is so openly racist...I wouldn’t would you ? Auspol
If you have family who have been in Australia for 60,000 years it is possible they spoke other languages for a very long time
... the Immigration department as a stand-alone was a lot more intellegent and nuanced. Now, as part of an amalgamated ‘Home Affairs’ Agency, sounds more like an Ultranationalist. 🙄
If new migrants don't fully 'integrate', the Coalition government will exploit it to win elections, as they've been doing for more than a decade.
As someone born in Australia of immigrant ancestry, I would not want any of our new immigrants to embrace the shameful values displayed in the Parliament today with the revocation of the Medevac bill. NotMyAustralia
