Mars Wrigley Australia’s Ballarat-based R&D team is pioneering paper-based sustainable packaging solutions for the confectionary giant globally.

Mars Wrigley Australia, the manufacturer of Snickers and Milky Ways, will transition all Australian-made chocolate bars to a new paper-based packaging that can be recycled at traditional kerbside recycling.

“I’ve been back into the business three years and when I came back, one of the pieces of work that we kicked off was our sustainable energy generation work, which was not just around our packaging, but also how we use energy. We’re now fully renewable across our factories through solar,” he said. US-based parent co Mars, Inc in 2017 announced a $US1 billion commitment to tackle climate change, poverty in the value chain, and scarcity of resources.The goals of the ‘Sustainable in a Generation’ plan include reducing environmental impacts and focusing on climate action, improving the lives of the one million people who work in the company’s supply chain, and advancing science, innovation and marketing in ways that help people lead healthier lives.
