A prison truck driver accused of smuggling tobacco and steroids into a Windsor jail says it's "very easy to do".

Police arrested Alex Basopoulos, 37, as he started his shift at Geoffrey Pearce Correctional Centre yesterday morning and allegedly seized contraband from the boot of his car. "It's not hard at all, it's not hard at all - people get caught every day, officers get caught every day," Mr Basopoulos told 9News outside his South Windsor house in Sydney's north-west.Two large knives were among the items seized by police from inside the man's vehicle.

He said he intended to plead guilty to smuggling tobacco and said he'd made a bad decision after his hours were cut due to COVID-19. "For extra money. They cut hours down at work, keep cutting down hours, then you weren't making ends meet," he said. He's accused of taking contraband into the jail and getting cash from inmate's families in return.Prescription drugs and cannabis were also found by police during a search of his vehicle and a raid on a Jordan Springs home.

The abolition of the justice system will not solve indigenous crime | Sky News AustraliaThe abolition of prisons promoted by Indigenous activist Vickie Roach would ultimately “hurt more vulnerable people in indigenous communities” NSW One Nation Leader Mark Latham says.\n\nMs Roach’s demand mirrors the Black Lives Matter push for the replacement of law enforcement systems including the police force and prisons with more comprehensive social services. \n\nMr Latham told Sky News host Andrew Bolt while activists “talk about the harm of colonisation, the truth is the greatest harm to indigenous people in Australia today comes from other indigenous people”.\n\n“All the statistics show, all the data confirms that when the police arrest an indigenous person it’s normally in the context of protecting the safety and well-being of another indigenous person”.\n\nPrisons exist to punish and rehabilitate criminals and protect the vulnerable, Mr Latham said. \n\n“Roach does a great disservice to her own community by peddling this line”. \n Abolishment of any policing or justice paves way for coup that’s all these leftwaffe nazis want Fk the lot of them Talking about more than he knows, again. i hope mark latham gets his long balls stuck in his fly and then he somehow dies

Ring of steel? Some checkpoints crowded, some unstaffed as latest lockdown beginsDrivers leaving the Melbourne metropolitan area have faced a confronting new sight: checkpoints manned with police, asking them where they are going and why. I hope everyone who got across the border from VIC will self-isolate for 14-21 days...to ensure Covid19 isn't spreading to other States & Territories. Confronting? Millions of people on ventilators, or dying in their homes because they cannot get medical aid is more like the image that I would call ‘confronting’ How about reframing this headline and spreading some calm and reassurance? Retriction? Sounds painful.
