'Shut up': NSW Nationals leader unleashes on federal colleagues for wrecking state campaign | michaelkoziol

The NSW Nationals leader John Barilaro has begged his federal counterparts to "shut up" as a sensational outbreak of infighting threatens to damage the party's prospects in a knife-edge state election campaign.

He said his federal counterparts were not helping and advised them to stop airing grievances over coal and the leadership of Deputy Prime Minister Michael McCormack."My message is to my federal colleagues is, you know, shut up. Simple," Mr Barilaro said. Mr Barilaro said coal power did not stack up economically and governments should not be in the business of propping up technologies the market had rejected.

Mr Joyce denied he was using the disagreement over building a new coal-fired power plant as a stalking horse for a move against Mr McCormack as party leader. However, he indicated that should a spill be called before the election, he would stand.
