'Shut everything else down now': Nurses call for more COVID-19 restrictions

Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation NT acting branch secretary Cath Hatcher is calling on the NT Government to shut all retail stores and hairdressers to stop the spread of COVID-19.NT Health is treating 15 COVID-19 patients, with one in a serious condition and in need of oxygen supportShe warned of a"real crisis" if the NT had 50 patients who all needed ventilators

"We need to shut everything down that is not essential — keeping open hospitals, health clinics, some GPs and food shops," Ms Hatcher said."Who needs to have a haircut? It's not appropriate in the pandemic to go and get a haircut, or buy jewellery."There are 15 COVID-19 patients currently being cared for by NT Health, with one patient in a serious condition and in need of oxygen support.

NT Chief Health Officer Hugh Heggie told ABC Radio Darwin yesterday he expected to see more serious cases. But a sharp increase in high-needs cases is something Ms Hatcher warns the NT health system may not be able to manage. "If we end up having numbers similar to that in ACT and Tasmania we will be having serious issues," she said.

My thought on the matter is two fold. Firstly as soon as a pandemic is announced we should have erred on the side of caution and to be as we are now. Secondly my understanding about viruses in particular are forever it you get one. Perhaps I have no idea but other virusus are.

I hate to say it but the government for the people are not listening to the needs of the people, it feels like they are just looking after the monetary side of things first. If closures were done ages ago we wouldn't be this far gone. I feel for the medical staff.

And we need to protect yhese people and their families Its not ok to let this spread

I want to thank our medical front line people currently working in hospitals. I am sorry that you do not have the P2 masks. You all asked me where I got mine. Please, you can make your own decent quality masks using layers, vaccum bags, felt, wire, and high dense cotton.

Issue is most people wanting everything closed down except essentials don’t understand how many businesses and people it takes to keep essentials up and running in a normal period let alone at the massive elevated level it is now. There are millions of workers required.

Hairdressers need (and want) to be shut down. I own a small salon where I am the only stylist. On average I see 6 people a day (one-on-one). If a hairdresser becomes infected it will spread !

Just found out that Qld Government has closed all gun and ammo stores. Apparently non essential? Yet so many retail stores are still open..? I’m not into conspiracy theory but this is very suspicious...

These women need to leave this situation to the men, I'm not sure why they're allowed to vote and drive.
