Bill Shorten is yet to reappear after an ‘unlosable election’ defeat on Saturday, after which he announced he will depart as party leader but remain the member for Maribyrnong.

Anthony Albanese, the Labor member for Grayndler, is the frontrunner to fill Mr Shorten’s shoes, with the party’s Deputy Leader, Tanya Plibersek, ‘considering’ a challenge for the role.

With almost 75 per cent of the vote counted, the Coalition has scooped up 74 seats in the House of Representatives, while Labor has claimed 63 and eight remain undecided. Image: News Corp Australia
