After sparking a global movement to help adults of all sizes and abilities to embrace their bodies, Taryn Brumfitt is turning her attention to helping kids maintain a positive body image. This is what she wants parents to know.

"We found that as soon as they were old enough to string a coherent sentence together, they were able to tell us that thin is good and fat is bad," Professor Yager tells Life Matters.

"Once children turn into adolescents, body dissatisfaction is related to a whole lot of expected things like dieting, eating disorders, steroid use in boys, but also unexpected things like self-harm, greater use of alcohol and early sexual behaviour.""So, it's the opposite of what people expect. They think that you need to be a little bit dissatisfied with your body to maintain a healthy weight, but that’s just not the case," she says.

"Parents can have a response to this that's going to be a positive influence by just remembering the 'red riding hood approach' which is: 'All the better to cuddle you with my dear', or 'all the better to carry you around' when they ask about your arms'.
