Toni Linley and her husband can hear prison sirens all the time, but decided neighbouring Risdon Prison is maximum security so the inmates are unlikely to get out.

Sharing a street with a maximum-security prison might not sit well with most, but Hobart couple Toni and Marc Linley wouldn't have it any other way.The maximun-security Risdon Prison has in the past discouraged buyers

The area is now commanding good rents, as its proximity to services and suburban centres is appreciated In fact, the Linleys, who once lived on a council estate in Leeds in the UK, refer to their patch of the eastern shore suburb of Risdon Vale as"paradise". "You can hear sirens going off all the time when they're paging people, but I can't see it, so it doesn't bother us at all," Ms Linley said.In February, the couple bought a second house in the same street, paying $218,000.
