Victorian Senator Sarah Henderson is writing to ABC chair Ita Buttrose calling for a stronger social media policy for journalists after one reporter was forced to apologise for a tweet that led to allegations he admitted were 'false and defamatory'.

Victorian Senator and Shadow Communications Minister Sarah Henderson has become so fed up with the lack of an appropriate social media policy that she has called on the broadcaster to introduce new watertight guidelines for staff.

Victorian Senator Sarah Henderson is calling for a stricter social media policy to be implemented by the ABC. Picture: NCA NewsWire /Brendan Beckett Jackson misinterpreted the “noise” comment and believed it was in relation to the allegations of racist behaviour at Hawthorn after former coach Alistair Clarkson was recently appointed coach of North Melbourne.“The trauma of Hawthorn’s First Nations former players and their families is ‘noise’ to North Melbourne’s self-pitying president Sonja Hood,” Jackson’s now-deleted tweet read.

“The buck stops with the managing director of the ABC David Anderson who refuses to implement a proper social media policy,” she said. Mr Laming took up legal action against the public broadcaster and the ABC paid out more than $200,000 in damages and costs to cover the lawsuit over Ms Milligan’s tweet.
