Victorian health authorities are investigating the source of two infections in staff at the Rydges Hotel on Swanston Street, as the number of coronavirus cases in Victoria rises by 10.

A second staff member at a hotel housing returned travellers in Melbourne has tested positive for coronavirus.

Victoria recorded 10 new COVID-19 infections overnight, including another staff member at the Rydges Hotel on Swanston Street.Victoria's Chief Health Officer Brett Sutton confirmed returned travellers staying at other hotels were being moved to the Rydges, which now holds 13 active cases. He said health officials had not yet confirmed the staff members contracted the virus while at work, but were investigating on the presumption they did.Five of the 10 new infections are linked to a single household."The original case in that household — we haven't determined how that individual contracted it, but it is a big household; obviously it is always a risk with close contact within a household in terms of transmitting to others," he said.

Professor Sutton said that was because health authorities had been able to find a link to a known case for those 18 people. One other case is linked to a known source and the remaining three new infections are returned travellers in mandatory hotel quarantine.
