The head of the state’s insurance regulator has quit his post after being “absent from duty” for several months.

A second chief executive has quit NSW’s troubled insurance system, with the head of the agency that regulates workers’ compensation as well as motor accident claims leaving his post.

A spokesperson for SIRA said: “Mr Dent has been absent from duty since earlier this year and has recently tendered his resignation. The spokesperson did not respond to questions relating to the cause of Dent’s departure but sources inside SIRA who are not authorised to speak to the media said an internal investigation was under way., resigning from his $1 million-plus role at the state insurer as the agency has been ordered to rein in its ballooning expenses.Dent was appointed CEO of SIRA in 2021, after leaving his role as head of the NSW Trustee & Guardian, which manages more than $6 billion in client assets.

“On a daily basis, my teams respond to trauma on NSW roads and are exposed to the tragic outcomes that careless driving can lead to.”
