PM previously called Anthony Albanese a ‘loose unit’ for backing $1 an hour rise, saying it would exacerbate ‘inflationary pressures’

Scott Morrison has dropped his objection to minimum wage rises, as he faces mounting concern about the cost of living.Morrison made the comments in the Northern Territory on Tuesday, ahead of the Wednesday’s release of the latest wage statistics, which will show whether the Reserve Bank’s prediction of an increase in pay has materialised.

Morrison said that seven of the last eight minimum wage decisions by the Fair Work Commission resulted in real increases, compared to only three of six under Labor – despite minimum wages being set by the independent umpire. But Wednesday’s release of the wage price index looms as a threat to Morrison, because if the figures do not show an increase in wage growth, Labor will renew its criticism that “the cost of everything is going up except your wages”.Sign up to receive an email with the top stories from Guardian Australia every morning

He’ll say anything at this stage. But is it true?🤔

He does it every time in same way..

I am against minimum pay rises. Time we make the minimum wage unaffordable so it starts to push people in to the job market. Time Australia starts to become more tough on welfare & stop being the ‘hand-out capital of the world’.

Morrison wants us to dob in petrol stations? How are we supposed to know what they buy petrol for and how much tax and profit is slapped on top? Where is the 'Tough cop on the beat' he was going on about when these concerns were raised way back when this was announced?

Translation: Scott shifts to whatever gets him votes. Whether or not it happens is incidental.

Scott Morrison suggests Labor may have leaked AUKUS information had it been briefed soonerThe Prime Minister denies that Australia broke with the Biden administration when it decided not to consult Labor about its momentous decision to scrap the French submarine program and unveil an ambitious new plan to build nuclear-powered submarines with the US and the UK. So, the Prime Minster were planning on walking out of the French subs deal... 5 months before.... 'five months before the AUKUS announcement in September last year.' You better believe it.
