Prime Minister Scott Morrison has called for re-elected British Prime Minister Boris Johnson to deliver a post-Brexit free-trade deal with Australia after congratulating him on a "resounding victory".
Drawing a parallel with his own election victory in May, where he campaigned for the votes of those he called "quiet Australians," Mr Morrison urged Mr Johnson to "say g'day to the quiet Britons for us".The Conservative majority government , which had secured 361 seats to Labor's 203 by Friday night, could see the United Kingdom leave the European Union by the end of January, allowing the UK and Australia to formally begin negotiations on a new deal that will cover $26.9 billion in trade.
"Looking forward to the stability this brings and a new deal for Oz with the UK," Mr Morrison said on Instagram alongside a photo of him and Mr Johnson on Friday evening.US President Donald Trump also used his congratulatory remarks to pave the way for a new trade deal with the UK. "Congratulations to Boris Johnson on his great WIN! Britain and the United States will now be free to strike a massive new Trade Deal after BREXIT," he wrote on Twitter.
Labor leader Anthony Albanese had been reluctant to publicly back UK Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn ahead of Friday's election. Mr Corbyn, who identifies as a democratic socialist, was perceived as more left-wing than the Australian Labor Party after he campaigned on a platform that included introducing a 32-hour working week over a decade, re-nationalising postal, water and energy systems and hiking taxes.

If Scotland leaves the UK and stays with the EU, Northern Ireland might start talking with Southern Ireland, who are in the EU already, about reunification. That would leave England with Wales for Boris, along with the remains of the Royal Family.
