The 22-year-old man charged with the murder of Ballarat mother Samantha Murphy is also now facing fresh charges over an unrelated incident in October last year. Patrick Orren Stephenson was on March 6 charged over the death of the 51-year-old Murphy, who police allege was murdered at Mount Clear in Ballarat the same day she went missing three months ago.
Several searches have failed for find Murphy’s body or any belongings she was believed to have had with her — such as her phone and smart watch — when she disappeared on February 4, after leaving her Ballarat home to go for a run in the nearby Canadian State Forest. The latest search at Enfield State Park, about 30km from where Murphy went missing, on April 11 and 12 came after police received intelligence “from a number of sources”.
