Sky News Washington correspondent Annelise Nielsen says the Royal Family is in “unprecedented territory” with Prince Charles’ comments on Australia’s climate policy.
It comes following a recent BBC interview in which Prince Charles was asked what he would say to the governments of countries like Australia which might appear reluctant to take serious action on climate change.Ms Nielsen said this is “extraordinary” given the “whole function of a Royal Family is to stay out of politics”.
“But I think this really signals that they’re looking at the succession plan now, Queen Elizabeth is getting older and we know this has been a huge push from Charles,” she told Sky News host Andrew Bolt. “They’ve got the three generations locked in, they get to avoid the whole Harry and Meghan drama when they’re pushing about this clean green future.
“But they are veering into really dangerous territory, their function is not to be telling world leaders what to do.”
